Involving a wide range of operations primarily on the abdomen, gastrointestinal tract, skin, breast and soft tissues, General Surgery involve appendectomy, herniorrhaphy, cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal by surgery), bowel resections, and mastectomy.
Most of these surgeries are now done with minimally invasive (laparoscopic) techniques, smaller incisions, less pain, and faster recovery. General surgeons also handle acute emergencies such as trauma and acute abdominal illness.
